Native Seedsters, Inc. Introduces the Premier Switchgrass Seed Harvester for the Growing Biofuels Industry.

Billings, MT June 25, 2008 - Native Seedsters, Inc. (NSI) announced today that they are commercializing a new seed harvester to support the energy crop industry, with the first production units scheduled for delivery later this summer. The Switchgrass Seedster, can efficiently harvest switchgrass seed, which like many grass species is notoriously difficult to collect without specialized equipment. Switchgrass seed is shatter-prone and ripens while a dense understory of leaves and stems remain green. By plucking just the seed with the counter-rotating brush and combing drum the Seedster does not thresh the green material, reducing premature shatter and the need to separate impurities from the seed.

The Switchgrass Seedster is a new, streamlined design configuration from the first Arbuckle Native Seedsters, and coincides with a release of a new generation of the NSI product line. Seed dislodgement, seed conveyance and the seed hopper are all integrated in a single unit that mount on a tractor loader. PTO hydraulic pumps power three hydraulic motors that turn the brush, the combing drum and the air boost brush shafts. The units have a bottom dump door that permits rapid unloading, by simply raising the loader and dumping into a truck or a trailer. Brush and comb rpm are controlled from the cab.

Switchgrass is widely considered an ideal feedstock for cellulosic ethanol. Institutions like the Samuel R. Noble Foundation of Ardmore, Okla., South Dakota State University and private entities like energy crop company Ceres, Inc. are developing high-yielding varieties of switchgrass and other grass crops. They expect demand for switchgrass seed will grow along side the development of the cellulosic ethanol industry.
